The EJIDO bookshelf expands on the formal and conceptual language of the PARCELA table, translating its tectonic logic into a vertical, multi-tiered structure. With its blackened steel planes supported by cascading horsehair, this piece evokes the irregular territorial divisions of ejidos, which are communal lands held in collective stewardship in Mexico, drawn out as a result of the agrarian demands of the Mexican Revolution. Hidden internal lighting lights up the horsehair from within, producing an otherworldly glow that destabilizes the apparent weight of the metal surfaces and suggests suspension rather than support. This luminous effect recalls the unsettling presence of extraterrestrial intelligence in Jordan Peele's Nope, where the horse becomes a conduit between the earthly and the alien.
